My god, it’s full of stars… Sometimes, it’s as though one’s stars are in alignment; as though everything has fallen into place, all at once; el taco grande; paydirt.
Allow me to explain. It was with a mild sensation of such celestial congruence that I recently read this article on Roy Greenslade’s Media Guardian blog. It’s about cloud computing enabling social media and networking. Nnnnggg. *Pop*
Madhouse knows a thing or two about cloud computing, see? One of our lovely clients is the technology group K3, who, among other things, help their clients benefit from this new IT methodology. (Sounds space-age, but the principle is very simple… it’s internet-based computing, where shared resources, software, and information are provided to users on demand. The “cloud” is the ‘net.)
It turns out that the Telegraph Media Group, proprietor of the venerable broadsheet, is something of an early adopter in this field, and at a recent tech forum their CTO, Toby Wright, was singing the praises of the cloud method.
This is where the stars align.
The praises in question concern the (significant) extent to which he sees the adoption of cloud computing methodology facilitating journalists’ interaction with readers, creation of rich media, the building of niche interest and discussion groups, etc.; in other words, the very essence of social media adding value in a commercial context. To quote Wright:
“…this kind of engagement is the hallmark of social media, and community involvement is the sine qua non of the business environment of the future… [it is cloud computing] applications that make it easy…”
So there you have it. Cloud computing and social networking, together at last. It’s the future. Tell your friends.
